Yesterday I went to the library building to listen the Dr. Meg Tarafder 's speech about Somaly Mam as a Bodhisattva. A Bodhisattva is one who has pure compassion towards all being. To become a Bodhisattva, a person should suffer a lot of pain and reincarnate to suffer continuously until this person becomes enlightened, which means the person has the spiritual insight. Dr. Meg Tarafder described Somaly as Bodhisattva because Somaly suffered the very painful life as a sexual slave when she just was twelve years old. Her miserable experience made her to be enlightened. After her escaped from the brothel, her helped many people who have similar experience with her. This connects to Bodhisattva that has self-sacrifice and determination to free others from suffering.
